TURKEY POINT LIGHT STATION CONTRUCTION OF STEPS |
In the spring of 2007, Turkey Point Light Station started the construction of our new steps. Ross Gibson was the contractor and Mike Motto was the builder. The cost for this project was $49,000. It took approximately three months to complete. The first person to climb the stairs was Joan Russell. She also runs the gift shop and opens the lighthouse every weekend to climbers. The steps were officially open to climbers June 2, 2007. We have also installed a new flag pole. It stands approximately five feet from the original one. The concrete from the original is still there. If you look closely, you will see Fannie Mae Salter's name signed in the concrete. The goal for our organization is to rebuild the keeper's home. However, we need an estimated $400,000.00 dollars. We are working towards this goal. |
